Equal Opportunities

Published: 12 Nov '25

In St Mary's School our Christian vision shapes all we do.

We treasure each child and enable them to flourish, using their God given potential and establishing a secure foundation

for them to thrive in a rapidly changing world. ‘We are a Christ-centred school with a child-centred curriculum’

where wisdom and love shape learning and teaching within our community.

Equal opportunities permeate through all aspects of school life and are the responsibility of every member of the school community. We aim to ensure that our planning, teaching and learning reflects our specific commitment to equality of opportunity in all subject areas and themes in line with the National Curriculum, and that planning takes account of the differing needs of pupils and their progression.

Our current equality objectives are:

·       To promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through all appropriate curricular opportunities, with particular reference to issues of equality and diversity.

·       To narrow the gap between boys’ and girls’ attainment at the end of Key Stages (This will be achieved through high quality teaching and specific provision for pupils who are not making expected progress).

·       To tackle prejudice and promote understanding in relation to people with disabilities.

·        Continue to maintain the school’s position as a provider of the high quality education and as a good employer, providing development opportunities for all staff.

·        Ensure all staff work together with a shared sense of purpose to meet the needs of every pupil.

·        Ensure that pupils and staff contribute towards a happy and caring environment by showing respect for and appreciations of one another and individuals.

·        Ensure that complaints or evidence of failure to comply with the school’s equality statement will be dealt with promptly and fully investigated according to the relevant procedure.
