Opening of the new Library

We were delighted to welcome Andréa Prior, author and illustrator, to open our new Library today. Andréa, who divides her time between the South Downs and Spain, spent some time chatting to children throughout the school about her work, both in poetry and illustration. She explained the process of developing an illustration, from the original idea right through to the finished painting. Andréa also read some of her nonsense poems from her books, 'A Parcel of Pigs' and 'A Piddle of Puppies'. The children were encouraged to join in with actions, which they thoroughly enjoyed. After this, Andréa was joined by members of the School Council for the official opening of the Library. She spoke to them before the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, emphasising the importance of reading and how it helps develop the mind. Rhymes are particularly important, as they can help young children to understand word patterns and sounds, such as alliteration - a mischief of mice, a shiver of sharks and, of course, a piddle of puppies.

If you have already placed an order for a book, your child will now be in receipt of their personal signed copy, but if you didn’t get a chance to order first time round and your child loved the session, then don’t worry, you still have a chance to make a direct order. Another letter with details of how to order is being emailed out by the School Office to all parents. For more information about Andréa and her work, do feel free to have a look at her website: www.andreaprior.me .
