Tremors and volcanoes in Yr 3

Ireland class started their ‘Tremors’ topic by investigating what a volcanic eruption looks like and demonstrated this by creating our own volcanoes. We followed instructions on how to make a volcano and discussed what we thought might happen. Having built them, we then created our own eruptions with cola and Mentos.

We used two different types of cola, Sainsbury’s own brand and Coca-Cola. The best result occurred using the Sainsbury’s own brand. The children thought that this was due to the design of the bottle, as the Sainsbury’s bottle appeared to have more air inside it. Further investigation found that adding more Mentos to the cola had no impact on the results.
