Year 4 Science Experiment

The children in USA Class have been completing lots of scientific experiments during this half term's Plants topic. Last week, they enjoyed investigating how water is transported in plants using carnations and celery. We completed a series of observations over a period of 24 hours and were surprised how quickly the carnations and celery changed colour when placed in glasses containing water and food dye. The children learned that the process of water movement through a plant is known as transpiration, and that water evaporating from the leaves, buds and petals pulls more water up the stem of a plant, which is why the carnations and celery changed colour. We hope you enjoy looking at the photographs of our colourful experiment.
