Visit to the Imperial War Museum

On 6 December, as part of their studies of World War I & II, Year 6 headed to London to visit The Imperial War Museum. The first sight of the museum and the 15" howitzers used in WWII were a great introduction to a packed day. As well as undergoing the 'Trenches Experience', a number of the children were able to dress up in replica WWI uniforms. The children found the V1 and V2 rockets 'amazing' and they were surprised by the size of the iconic Rolls-Royce engine that was used in the Spitfire. Of particular interest was the cross-section model of a 1940s house, which included an Anderson shelter. The children were able to compare the shelter to the ones that they made in school earlier and found it interesting to see where the shelter would have been in relation to the house. They also looked at some of the vehicles used in both wars. The children and staff reported that the IWM was very interesting as a visit and the children were commended for their behaviour, which was exemplary. Thank you to Ms Frances, Mr Rogers, Mr Edge, Mrs Reid, Mrs Gabriel, Mrs Dona and Mrs Lees who attended the trip.
