Just before February half term, and with World Book Day imminent, the children participating in the Weald Book Award were treated to a talk by an author: Kiran Millwood Hargrave. She was truly inspirational, offering many tips on how to write a book. She showed the children the drafts, jottings, rough drawings and sketches she had completed before she was able to begin. Then they saw the finished versions, different choices of titles and front covers that she finally settled upon. Many of the children left the session motivated to write, clutching autographs and having renewed vigour to complete the Book Award challenge.
