Computing

Computing

What will our computer engineers, web developers and computer programmers be able to do when they leave us?

By the time our pupils leave St Mary's CofE (Aided) Primary School, we want them to be responsible, confident and creative users of technology, who can apply computational thinking beyond the Computing curriculum in this 'rapidly changing world'.

They will become digitally literate and are active participants in a digital world. They will know how to stay safe whilst using technology and on the internet, minimising risk to themselves and others. It is vital that all children understand and keep themselves safe online and know who to contact if they have concerns, including the use of report buttons.

Our children will have had repeated practical experience writing computer programs in order to solve problems, including logic and algorithms. They will have the ability to ask and answer questions through collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information. This will enable them to use search options effectively whilst understanding the need to evaluate the relevance of content.

The children will be respectful, responsible and competent digital citizens; they will have the knowledge to support themselves and others online and apply this to their learning and careers as they go through life.

Implementation
We implement the curriculum as seen below on the medium term plan.

Impact

We measure the impact of our curriculum through the following methods:

  • Summative assessment of pupil discussions about their learning.
  • Images of the children’s practical learning.
  • Purple Mash Assessment tool for WT, EXS, GD
  • Interviewing the pupils about their learning (pupil voice).
  • Annual reporting of standards across the curriculum.
