Weald Book Award 2023

The children who have been participating in this year’s Weald Book Award attended the eagerly anticipated Finals Evening on Tuesday. The Weald Book Award is a project for our able Year 6 readers involving other primary schools in the locality. During the evening, the children had the opportunity to meet one of the authors, Clare Weze, in person, and interact with four of the other authors via Zoom. Each author gave a short presentation followed by a question and answer session.

Since commencing the project in October, the children have been participating in a number of directed tasks, based on their reading material. We are very proud of the high quality competition entries that they produced. The following children were announced as winners, receiving a certificate and prize bag for their efforts:

James – Book Character; William – Front Cover Design; Ruben – Photo; Scarlett R – Writing; Harriet – Letter

We were excited to learn that ‘The Boy Who Made Everyone Laugh’ by Helen Rutter was voted as this year’s overall winner; this title was a firm favourite amongst our St Mary’s readers.

Congratulations to the following children for their commitment to the project throughout the year:

South Africa: William, Frankie, April, Holly A, Scarlett E, Scarlett R

Japan: Harriet, Holly D, James, Alfie, Ruben, Freddie
