Oracy

The teaching staff have been looking at oracy in the classroom as part of our professional development this term. Each class has set up their own discussion guidelines - an agreed summary of expectations for speaking and listening in the classroom. We have looked at 'Talk Tactics' to develop the children's understanding of discussion roles (instigate, probe, challenge, clarify, build and summarise) and 'The Listening Ladder' to introduce progression of skills. 

 

Before Christmas, we welcomed Voice 21 to St Mary's. We were able to demonstrate what we already have in place for oracy and create an action plan based on our areas for development.
