We were honoured to have Julia Donaldson working with our Year 2 children last week. She took two workshops with the classes and enthralled children with her retelling of The Gruffalo, Room on a Broom, What the Ladybird Heard and Stick Man. The class dressed up and used the repetition in her books to actively take part. Malcolm, Julia's husband, accompanied her and played the guitar retelling books through songs. The children and staff were in awe of the presence that she had in the classroom as a storyteller. Steyning bookshop came and sold a variety of titles after school and Julia signed copies for pupils, staff and parents. The school made commission of £400 which will be reinvested into books for the classrooms. This really was a day that lots of us will remember forever!
