Welcome from Mrs Heath, our Head Teacher
Thank you for your interest in St. Mary's. I hope that you'll find plenty of useful information on the pages of our website. Although we do realise that the internet is a wonderful thing, we do encourage parents to visit us in person to experience the caring and happy atmosphere of our school.
Starting school is an important event in anyone’s life and Ofsted recognised that children at St. Mary’s “get off to a truly flying start.” Most of us can remember our own start and many feel some apprehension as a new situation can be worrying as well as exciting. There will be new friends, new lessons, new teachers, new buildings, and new routines.
To help children and their parents adjust to this new situation, St. Mary’s has a well-qualified, enthusiastic and committed staff, a supportive Governing Body and an active Friends of St. Mary’s. We welcome parents’ support and practical help in every aspect of school life. We have a number of agreed principles underlying our school life and these are incorporated in our own Mission Statement.
We are delighted with our recent Ofsted inspection (Autumn 08). Our outstanding report can be viewed on the Ofsted website at www.ofsted.gov.uk. As a church aided school we also had a SIAS inspection which focussed on the characteristics of the school as a church school. In summary, Ofsted found us to be “An outstanding school where pupils make exceptionally good progress in all aspects of their learning and personal development” and the SIAS report stated that the distinctiveness and effectiveness of St. Mary’s as a church school was outstanding, the school demonstrated a deep commitment to the development of all its pupils, whatever their background or academic ability, within an excellent church school ethos. (Both reports are available for download as PDF files, via the links at the end of this page.)
Our hopes are expressed in the value we place on our pupils. Each makes a distinctive contribution to the life of the school, and each will gain something different from St.Mary’s. Our intention is that they will all take forward with them the idea of education as an enjoyable, continuing process, as well as values that will stand them in good stead throughout their lives.
