About the School
St
Mary's C of E (Aided) Primary School is co-educational with 4 to 11 year olds.
We currently have 248 children on role (Dec 2009).
St Mary's is a Church of England Foundation of 'Aided' status, maintaining close links with the Parish Church of St Mary. The church appoints many of our governors. At major Festivals the pupils attend special school services in the Parish Church and at other times using it as a learning resource.
The school actively promotes its Christian ethos. As an Aided School there is special reference to the teachings of the Church of England and the children are encouraged in Christian worship. The school has its own policies, which are based upon the statements of the Diocese and the Local Educational Authority.
The school was opened in 1969 and completed in 1972. It has the benefit of spacious and modern buildings. There are nine classrooms, a special educational needs room, two activity areas, a large hall/gym, a school library and a purpose built computer suite. All classrooms have adjacent cloakroom and designated toilet facilities.
There are extensive grounds incorporating two large hard surfaced playgrounds, an adventure playground and a large playing field for physical education and recreation. A large pond, with a rockery and waterfall, enables pupils to participate in pond dipping and to gain first hand experience of caring for the environment.
On site swimming facilities are provided by a heated outdoor learner pool which is extensively used in the summer term and during the summer holidays.
